The Poet In Me

I have just finished recording my new album, “The Poet In Me”. I’m delighted with the early mixes, 12 new tracks recorded and produced by Angus Lyon at Gran’s Studio in Bigger on the banks of the River Clyde. This time round I have a much smaller team, they have been superb, with Angus himself on Keyboards, and Accordion, Anna Massie on Guitar, Fiddle and Banjo and Stevie Lawrence on Mandocello, Bass, Percussion and Small Pipes. It’s going too be difficult to better my last album “Fragile” but I have high hopes, listen out for Anna singing a song I wrote last year, “Captain Oh My Captain” and the title track which was inspired by York Poet Don Walls. Don’t worry there are 10 more good tracks to keep you listening. I hope to have the album ready for release in early September. If you’re interested in an advanced copy please send me your address and I will keep you informed as to when it’s ready.

The Poet In Me – A New Studio Album

In May I’m starting work on a new album called “The Poet In Me”. I will be recording 12 new songs including the Title track. After the success of my last album “Fragile” I will once again be returning to Gran’s Cottage  in Biggar with Angus Lyon of Blazing Fiddles recording and producing the album for me. I have been fortunate enough to secure the wonderful talents Anna Massie and my old friend Stevie Lawrence. Anna did a wonderful job for me on Fragile and I can’t wait to work with her again. Stevie, produced and played one of my other and perhaps my most popular album, Along The Way in 2007. My last three albums are going to a hard act to follow, but I’m confident that the songs are good enough and I certainly have the musicians working with me to bring the best out of them.

Rock’N’Reel Magazine (R2) Review of Stan’s latest Studio Album “Fragile”

Review Of   ‘Fragile’  by Stan Graham.

***** (5 Stars)

Stan Graham’s songs are from the heart and speak to the heart. Fragile is his fifth studio album over the last decade or so. In that time he has accompanied Vin Garbutt on a tour of Australia, and has had his songs recorded by Vin, George Hamilton IV, and Martyn Wyndham-Read , among others.

The melodies are instantly memorable, and on this release he is accompanied by such fine musicians as Emily Smith, James McClennon, Anna Massie, Stewart Hardy, Wendy Weatherby (cello), Iain Sandilands (percussion) and James Lindsay (bass). Credit to Angus Lyon of Blazin’ Fiddles for production, along with keyboard and accordion duties.

Prior to his recording career, Stan spent nearly 40 years in the Forces, and the wisdom of the years is evident in his songwriting. His voice is warm, soothing and unforced, and his lyrics speak for a generation. Memory is a strong thread through the album (‘Tiptoe Up The Flight Of Stairs’, ‘Down Memory Lane’ ). Every track is brilliantly crafted but ‘Fathers and Sons’ deserves a special mention. On the surface, his themes may appear deceptively simple, but the unhurried songs are poignantly deep and enriching.

A FINE COMPLEMENT, FROM JOHN STOREY – THANK YOU!

Sunday afternoon, lousy weather, nights drawing in, nowt on t’telly so I set up a play list of classic folk via my napster Internet connection, Tom Paxton, Joan Baez, Show of Hands, Judy Collins, etc. then I settle down in the sitting room, Sarah listening to the same playlist in the kitchen. >> A few tracks in and there in the middle of all these lovely songs is Stan Graham with “time like the tides” and wow it stands up so well against these classics! Great stuff Stan. We just wanted to tell you.

GOING DUTCH

I have only just returned from a wonderful weekend in Holland at the Zuiderzee Museum in Enkhuisen. The Martime Festival was excellent with the best of Hollands Shanty Groups singing their hearts out and me the Lone Songwriter, not the Lone Ranger popping up to sing my songs.  It was a great opportunity for me to sing  Whitby Harbour with Kees Kwant’s excellent group “Nelson’s Blood” and also try out a new song written for the occaison called “Beside The Zuider Zee” I sang this with the ladies of the Lakeside Singers, video to follow.  My thanks to everyone concerned for a wonderful weekend of music and friendship.
